Wiring Money for Car
Is it a typical practice for auto dealer to request wiring of funds when purchasing a car on Ebay? I live in Hawaii and looking at a Porsche in California, newer car with low mileage. Could I trust the dealer and buy this car unseen and have them ship it to me? Or should I fly up to LA & complete the transaction in person and ship it myself?|||AYI..., You can fly to LA, and inspect the car, if you wish. Or you can escrow the payment click on Link Then contact an auto appraiser, and have them certify the car. The fee would probably cost less than the ticket to LA.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I did not sell you my opinion|||"Is it a typical practice for auto dealer to request wiring of funds when purchasing a car on Ebay? READ this link (click word link) Link There are many scams(like this one out there) for low mileage, price to good to be true for the year ,model. Never purchase a vehicle sight unseen. Never Wire any money , unless someone you know/trust/ or yourself : has verified the existance of the vehicle, the seller has legal title to sell the vehicle and you have verified the actual condition of the vehicle. What is the Ebay auction number#? When you plug that number into the Ebay search what does it show? I am betting, once you tell the seller you are flying to CA to complete the transaction in person, you never hear from them again. I am betting you found this one on Craig's list and they want to "go thru Ebay" right? That is simply not possible as Ebay and Craigs are not in anyway connected and this is a common scam.|||Please read these links before purchasing a vehicle on Ebay (click the word link) Link You can get some great deals on Ebay Motors, but you must use common sense, do your homework and most important Inspect the vehicle before purchase, certaily prior to payment. Ebay, nor the sellers allow for "holding of payment subject to approval by the buyer". Let me guess, the seller is saying Free shipping? This is Never done with vehicles on Ebay Motors.|||Another thing that has been hanging quite a few car buyers here is they all think the VPP(vehicle protection program) is valid on all cars that the logo appears on. that is not true. Most people don't get the vpp because in small print you need to inspect car and alot of buyers here buy sight unseen so they are automatically disqualified from this protection.|||We've sold a few consigned vehicles here over the years. In only one case did the buyer 'trust' to wire funds prior to inspection, but of course it all worked out well for them too. Of course, we'd never knowingly misrepresent the vehicle, but also reasonably realize buyers have no way to ensure that. We require a good faith deposit prior to any final payment arrangements, which normally result in either wire transfer after/upon completing an inspection prior to any delivery, or cash or certified check (we can verify in real time) on pickup. Deposits are refundable if on inspection the vehicle is found to be misrepresented. We actively encourage inspection prior to either offering or payment. We think all sellers should. However, it's on the buyer to arrange for that, and given any associated logistics, it's the buyer's call whether that's cost effective for them. Good advice previously offered regarding potential escrow or third party certification which can reduce that buyer's cost accordingly. If your 'dealer' won't accept that, it's reasonable to conclude that may indicate potential problem. We also encourage as much research into the seller's history as can be done prior to making any offer or payment.--------------------------------- Sometimes I wonder if the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it. - - Mark Twain|||Someone somewhere started a thread "ebay used to be fun". Maybe here ? Anyway, way back in the Dark Ages I bought a car on ebay, wired the money, car shows up on hauler arranged by seller, everything is right with the world. No way would I do that now but we were all so innocent then . ----|||NO, it is not standard practice to wire money for a car on eBay Motors. In fact, it isn't allowed. NEVER use Western Union or Money Gram to anyone you don't know personally. They may not even be a car!|||I can't believe anyone would buy a car without seeing it, touching it and having it inspected by a mechanic. That's on eBay, from a dealer, from a used car lot or from a private owner.|||RE: Post #5 "Deposits are refundable if on inspection the vehicle is found to be misrepresented." Really? Well not via Paypal or the EBM VPP . Read both, which exlclude refunds on deposits.|||RE: Post #7 "NO, it is not standard practice to wire money for a car on eBay Motors. In fact, it isn't allowed. " Sorry, but this is not true. The rules for Ebay Motors Payments are different than for Ebay core and EBM parts and accessories. If you absolutely have to have it, I would fly to LA. Can you not find a porsche in HI? Susan||||||Snappy auctions since you do NOT sell vehicles , which is what this discussion is about, your Ebay CORE (NON Ebay Motors refund policies) have little bearing, other than to advertise/ self promote. Ebay Motors vehicle policies, have relevance to your items/auctions.|||OP needs to hire someone on their behalf to inspect the vehicle or go in person to inspect/verify the vehicle, condition and current title of the vehicle, before making the purchase. To wire money blindly to a stranger in another state no less, is just silly.
