Burning CD Help? ...

I have tried three different blank Cd's

2 of which are CD-R the other is CD-RW.
I keep on getting the message CD can not to read or written to.
Can anyone help me? I have tried to lower the speed to 8x as someone else had said and i also have the last i-tunes version.
