I just wish to verify (and clarify) what I've read here.

iTunes cannot import music based on a directory structure and keep the artist/album/song structure intact. It can only import based on some header information in the song files themselves, irregardless of whether these headers are useful to the user or not.

Moving Itunes library from an external ...

Hi, So I have 2 emacs, yes I know its time to upgrade (different topic). One is a 1g the other is an 800. So the 1g houses the majority of my itunes library but has the data stored on an external drive. Unfortunately the 1g has crashed fairly severely. I now want to get the 800 machine to use the external drive as its itunes library. I am not concerned about the existing library on the 800. In the past I have had no problems taking an existing library and putting it on a hard drive, but in this case the library is already on the hard drive and I guess the directories to the data is not on the 800. I hope I am being fairly clear in describing this.

Itunes Won't Burn Audio CD - Slow! ...

I have wasted nearly 10 CD-R's trying to get iTunes to burn an audio CD. I've burned cd's on this machine before with now problem. I think the issue started after I downloaded the 8.1 updates.

I can create a playlist and press "burn cd." It seems the CD is burning fine through the first track but after that it goes INSANELY SLOW and just stops in the middle of the 2nd track. I know it's not my driver, as I've been able to burn CD's from Windows Media Player...the problem with that is that MWP doesn't support the mp4 format. This is such a pain in the butt!

I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes about 5 times with no solution. Any help is greatly appreciated!

iTunes not burning disks properly? ...

Being a DJ I need to burn CDs all the live long day but recently I've had some problems.
Once the CD has finished burning it no longer appears in the iTunes window under "CD" and sometimes it will not eject...
Once I do manage to get the CD out it doesn't play on many CD players and when it does. not all the tracks work and some of them have a "scratchy" sound in the background.
I need to get this sorted ASAP as I need to burn a batch of disks by 2moro.

Any ideas?

I've update iTunes and fully updated my pc (vista SP2)

I have uninstalled ver 8 and ver 9 and reinstalled both with no change. Importing songs/downloading podcasts ...

Hello folks,

I have a problem with iTunes that I have been trying to solve over the past year and a half that renders the program unusable. For the record, I run a Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 machine, with a Pent 4 CPU, 2 gigs Ram.

When importing songs, playing music, or downloading podcasts, my computer will eventually return a memory write error, and iTunes will crash shortly after. It does not matter in how large or small a batch of songs are being imported, how many or few podcasts are being imported. Eventually the system will return the error regardless. In addition, this error occurs only in the drive where the music files themselves are housed. I separate my program installs, my files, and my system files across three different drives, so it's only whatever read/write processes that iTunes uses when accessing files that causes the memory error.

Before anyone starts talking about how this is a dangerous sign that the drive that houses my music is about to die, this is an isolated error that only occurs when iTunes is run, and never occurs at any other time in the five years I've owned the computer. Once this error occurs and iTunes shuts down, my computer will continue to return errors with the mft file table, which will disappear once I restart my computer with no harm done to the files or any losses.

In order to fix this problem, I have uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled newer and older versions of iTunes, as well as followed the official procedures for completely stripping iTunes from my system in order to install completely cleanly, in order to see if there is a conflict between older installs of iTunes or other programs.

Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem? I can only assume that iTunes, for whatever reason, is not playing well with my system set up. My system specs are all above the minimum required to run iTunes according to Apple, so I do not -think- this is a problem with the computer running out of memory. I have also run itunes with a plentiful amount of free space on the drive that both houses the program and the drive that houses the music. Even vague shots in the dark are welcome at this point.

Thank you very much, everyone.

Extremely slow importing and library ...

Hello,

I have my entire iTunes library stored on my Windows Server 2008 x64 Std machine, which is connected to my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate workstation by gigabit Ethernet (using a crossover link). I have very fast transfers in both directions when transferring files (due to the high-performance RAID arrays on both machines, speeds of ~100MByte/s are common).

I run iTunes locally on my Windows 7 machine. I hold down shift (the first time after a re-install of iTunes) when loading iTunes and point it to the mapped SMB share holding the .itl library file and all my music, etc. It loads OK and I can play all my content. However, when I try to add content to the library (by importing a CD or copying MP3/AAC files into the library) or alter meta data (changing album name or adding cover art, for example), everything slows down. It takes (on average) 20 minutes to import a CD (from a virtual drive on my workstation to avoid delays caused by the optical-to-magnetic stage of the import process) and importing files takes what seems like forever to complete.

This issue first appeared with iTunes 8.2 or 8.3 (I can't remember quite which version) and still exists in iTunes 9.0.

I have read online that some people have experienced slowness in SMB transfers in one direction and blamed it on a faulty cable or NIC. I have replaced the cable and swapped the NICs in both machines, but have experienced no performance improvement.

Is there anything I can do to help?

This issue also presented when I was running Windows Vista x64 on my workstation. I am using the 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows.

Many thanks in advance,

Sarah

A bug on iTunes 9, regarding ...

Am I the only one experiencing this? It happens on multi-disc albums when in album grid view.

The tracklisting order is messed up. For example - all the first track of a 2 disc album is stuck together along with the other track number 2's and 3's. And yes, all of these tracks are labeled with their "of Disc number" and everything. Believe me I'm very clean with my iTunes music.

Before this, it was all fine. Now it's messed up. You'd have to make the "Disc #" tab appear and click on it. But when you leave the window and come back to it, it goes back to the messed up order, which leaves you in having to click it again.

So I hope they fix this asap.

iTunes creates multiple Albums for ...

Another thing about iTunes that is appearing to me as an oddity: I have CDs of a particular pop artist (Laura Pausini, say) who will perform about 80% of the songs on the CD alone, but will have a couple of songs sung with other artists (who are listed together with her in the "performing artists" field). When I place a CD in my computer, and iTunes begins to rip it, it creates an 'album' in album view for every combination of artists, such that one album is created for Laura Pausini's CD, "Io Canto," where she sings about 13 of the album's 16 total tracks, and another, one-track album is created for a single duet between an Laura Pausini and Johnny Halladay, and yet another album is when Laura Pausini sings with the Italian artist, Tiziano Ferro. Thus Laura Pausini's solitary CD, 'Io canto,' is the source of four CD's in album view, as well as in the file structure one see's under the iTunes folder. You can imagine what happens in Eros Ramazzotti's "e2" 2-CD album, where about 20 of the 31 total tracks are Eros himself singing with other artists. What a nightmare!

Again, this does not happen in Windows Media Player, and I've done my due diligence by hunting through the on-line help for iTunes, but to no avail thus far.

I'd be most grateful for some help, here.
